History
Bensa District is located in Sidama Region, a regional state in southern Ethiopia, best known for its high-quality coffee beans. The high altitudes, fertile volcanic soil, and suitable climate of this area contribute to the exceptional flavor profile, which we could refer to as “typically Ethiopian.” Coffee production is an important economic activity and a main source of income for many locals.
In Ethiopia, locals run farms of less than two hectares on average, smallholder farmers often practice traditional farming methods and gather at a washing station. This natural batch was produced by small farms located in and around Kokose village, and the beans have undergone density sorting and drying under direct sunlight to reach optimal moisture readings before being hulled. The result is a coffee with soothing floral notes of lavender, a bright lime acidity, and a fruity, juicy nuance of blackcurrant or also known as cassis.
