Preparation Guide: Pour Over or V60 (Filter Coffee)
At Curador we want to help you prepare a delicious V60 coffee in a simple way.
Ingredients:
- Fresh Ground Coffee (Medium-Fine Grind) Grinding Guide
- V60 paper filter
- V60 cone
- Jug or cup
- Hot water (ideally between 90-96°C)
- Scale (optional for greater precision)
- Kettle with fine spout (optional for better pouring control)
Preparation:
1. Rinse the filter placed in the V60 Cone:
- Place the V60 filter into the cone and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste. Discard the rinse water.
- Preheat the pitcher or mug with hot water (optional).
2. Weigh the coffee:
- Use 15-20 grams of ground coffee per 250 ml of water (adjust the ratio to your taste).
- If you use a scale, measure the exact amount of ground coffee.
3. Initial discharge:
- Pour enough hot water over the ground coffee to moisten it completely ("pre-infusion or bloom"). Wait 30 seconds for the coffee to release its gases.
4. Main discharge:
- Pour the hot water in a circular motion to moisten all the coffee particles; we suggest starting from the center and moving outwards.
- Maintain a constant flow of water over the coffee bed.
- Divide the pour into 2-3 stages, with a 30 second interval between each stage.
5. Final extraction:
- Pour in the remaining amount of hot water until you reach the desired ratio (250 ml per 15-20 grams of coffee).
- Make sure all the coffee is evenly wet.
6. Remove the V60 cone:
- Once all the water has been extracted, remove the cone from the container with the coffee.
7. Enjoy your coffee:
- Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your preheated mug.
- Savor the aroma and flavor of your perfectly prepared V60 coffee.
Additional Tips:
- Use filtered or good quality water for best taste.
- Adjust the coffee grind to your preference. A finer grind will result in a stronger coffee, while a coarser grind will produce a milder coffee.
- Experiment with different ratios of coffee and water to find your perfect combination.
- Pay attention to the water temperature. Water that is too hot can result in bitter coffee, while water that is too cold will not extract the full flavor of the coffee.
- Pour water steadily and evenly for a balanced extraction.
- Enjoy the V60 coffee brewing process as a sensory experience.
With this guide and a little practice, you'll be able to make delicious Pour Over or V60 coffee at home!
