Brewing Guide: Specialty Coffee Aeropress
This guide will help you make delicious, flavorful coffee with your Aeropress, using specialty coffee.
Ingredients:
- Specialty fresh ground coffee (medium fine grind)
- Aeropress
- Paper filter for Aeropress
- Hot water (ideally between 90-94°C)
- Cup
- Scale (optional for greater precision)
- Stopwatch (optional for greater control of extraction time)
Preparation:
1. Rinse the filter and preheat the cup:
- Place the paper filter into the Aeropress portafilter and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste.
- Discard the rinse water.
- Preheat the mug with hot water (optional).
2. Add the ground coffee:
- Use 15-18 grams of ground coffee for 250 ml of water (adjust the ratio to your taste).
- Add the ground coffee to the bottom of the main Aeropress chamber.
3. Initial pour and "pre-infusion":
- Pour enough hot water over the ground coffee to moisten it completely (about 50 ml).
- Gently stir the ground coffee with a spoon to ensure it is evenly moistened.
- Let it sit for 30 seconds to allow the coffee to release its gases ("pre-infusion").
4. Main discharge and extraction:
- Pour the remaining hot water (approximately 200 ml) into the main chamber of the Aeropress.
- Do not fill the chamber to the brim, leave a small air space.
- Place the plunger into the main chamber, without pressing it yet.
5. Pressing and final extraction:
- Press the plunger slowly and steadily until the coffee is fully extracted and falls into the cup.
- It should take between 1-1.5 minutes to complete the extraction.
- Do not press too hard, as this can make the coffee bitter.
6. Enjoy your coffee:
- Remove the plunger and portafilter from the Aeropress.
- Savor the aroma and intense flavor of your perfectly prepared specialty Aeropress coffee.
Additional Tips:
- Use freshly ground specialty coffee for the best flavor.
- Experiment with different grinds, coffee amounts and water ratios to find your perfect combination.
- Pay attention to the water temperature. Water that is too hot can result in bitter coffee, while water that is too cold will not extract the full flavor of the coffee.
- Adjust the brewing time to your liking. A shorter brewing time will produce a lighter coffee, while a longer brewing time will result in a stronger coffee.
- Clean your AeroPress after each use to maintain optimal flavor and prevent coffee buildup.
